Fixing Paper Feeder Problem on Epson R230 Photo Printer
Written on January 2, 2008 – 9:47 pm | by admin
Are you upset by the problem on paper feeder of Epson R230 printer? I bet all R230 users have this kind of problem. Usually, the problem occurs in random. Sometimes, paper won’t enter the printer at all and it seems that the roller has lost its grip on the paper. This very troublesome if we want to print in large quantity, let say more than 100 pages at once.
The other problem usually occurs when we use glossy photo paper. The symptom is the same, the feeder wont feed the paper into the printer. I have researched the internet and found no clue for free, I mean it seems that if we want to fix our own printer, there’s usually cost for it.
So, with little courage inside me, I decided to do my unusual trial and error troubleshooting on my printer. What we need for this procedures are: glossy paper (you can use 270 grams glossy paper), cutter or scissor, and doubletape. That’s all you need.
First of all, you should be familiar first with the procedures of disassembling the printer. Usually there are some clutches or locking mechanism on the body. Just find it and you would be able to disassemble the body. For your information, you don’t need to totally disassemble it. You just need to open to plastic cover of the printer. For my mistake, I was forgot to document the disassembling procedures. However, it is actually a simple matter. Or, if you don’t want to be bothered by the disassembling process, you just need another tool: find a simple tool to attach the glossy paper over the bottom roller (could be the pincer or any tool that can reaches the bottom of the paper tray). I am forget to tell you that R230 has 2 roller inside, the upper roller (the paper feed roller) and bottom roller (at the bottom of paper tray).
After you manage to disassemble the body / cover, the next step is to prepare the glossy paper. All you need to do is to cut the glossy paper in size of 2 x 10 cm (or any size you like as long as it fits the bottom roller). Then, attach a piece of double tape (of you can use any super glue to attach it). In this case, I prefer double tape for ease of use and removal.
And, after you complete the procedures, your printer would start printing any pages you want. However, I do not guarantee that this method would work for you but I just use the logic that both roller could works in harmony, I just need to disable one of them to make it works.
Heres the picture the components:

and here’s the picture of printer and the 2 x 10 cm piece of glossy paper which is already attached to the bottom roller:

OK… I am sure you already have the picture in mind.. so why don’t you try yourself if you have trouble with this printer…

@junior…
I myself rarely use the cd label tray to print the cd label because it sometimes missed the printing outside the edge of the paper.
I prefer to use the upper tray and use software such as corel draw to print as it gives me nearly 100% precise printing result (I even never use nero cd label because of the same problem).
hope it helps, however, I’ll to experiment again with the cd label as soon as I have quite enough time.
thanks
