My Thecus N2100 – Yes Box
Written on December 31, 2007 – 12:25 am | by admin
Sometime ago, I brought this stuff called NAS (Network Attached Storage). I decided to buy this thing after I have bad experience with PC-based NAS (I use self-assembly PC not built-up/branded PC). After I read some reviews on the Internet, I decide to choose Thecus N2100 as the correct choice of mine. This stuff could be loaded up to 1 Terrabyte Harddisk Drive, however I only put my Seagate Baracuda SATA II 250 Gb on it without RAID configuration. I also use it as print server.
As quoted from it’s official website, Thecus N2100 – Yes Box can be used as:
- Music sharing server
- iTunes
- Community
- Personal Photo Web Server
- File Management and sharing
- FTP server
- Web Disk server
- Network neighbor
- USB service
- Extend USB Device Storage
- USB device “One touch copy”
Here are some pictures of this stuf:

as you can see from the last picture, there is 2 RJ-45 (LAN) port and 2 USB Port (1 for data & 1 for printer)
you can find the specs of this stuff HERE
To use Thecus N2100 – Yes Box as print server, do the followings:
- Connect the USB printer to one of the USB ports (Preferably the rear USB ports; front ).
- USB ports can be used for external HDD enclosures.
- Go to “Printers and Faxes” on your Start Menu.
- Click on “Add Printer” under File menu.
- Add printer Wizard appears on your screen. Click on “Next” button.
- Select “A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer” option.
- Select “Connect to a printer on the Internet or on a home or office network”, and enter “http://N2100_IP_ADDRESS:631/printers/usb-printer” into the URL field.
- Your Windows system will ask you to install drivers for your printer. Select correct printer driver for you
- Your Windows system will ask you if you want to set this printer as “Default Printer”.
- Select Yes, then all your print jobs will be submitted to this printer. Click on “Next” button.
- Click on “Finish” button.
