After so long being confused about incompatibility issues of the document format, we could now see the alternative of what is so called Open Document Format (ODF), which his claimed to be the first and only Open Standard standardised in ISO and supported by many applications. Popular office softwares like Google Docs, OpenOffice and StarOffice already support ODF.

And, yesterday, on 26 March 2008, the world’s first Document Freedom Day was celebrated, and for this celebration, around 200 teams from more than 60 countries worldwide organized local activities to raise awareness for Document Freedom and Open Standards. At that celebration, some package such as DFD starter packs containing a DFD flag, t-shirts and leaflets have been sent to the first 100 registered teams over the past weeks. What is so important about Open Standards? Open standards will ensure that we can choose any operating system or application available but still be able to read and edit all documents, collaborate with others without being worried of the incompatibility issues between software and we can freely use any software for processing the documents.
