Permalinks

All the time I never realized that what so called permalinks (short for permanent links) has been so important for the SEO management of a Blog. I just notice recently after reading Bob’s articles which explain a lot about the SEO tweak and technique. Indeed long URLs could be a problem either for the search engine (google, yahoo, and so forth) or even the human when referring to a site’s URL. So, I get my gears ready (a glass of coffee, a pack of Marlboro) and starting my journey to find the right path to the SEO realm.
Then, from Blog’s article too, I found a plug-in to change my conventional permalinks which is perhaps already 3 months old into new permalinks structure with a condition that search engine won’t loose my old permalinks. The plug-in is called Permalinks Migration Set. It works by permanently redirecting (redirect - 301) the old permalinks into the new one. My old permalinks structure was /%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ and now I change it into /%category%/%postname%/. So if you read this article, look at the URL address bar, in the old permalinks structure, what you see would be http://www.penerjemahbahasa.com/2008/02/09/permalinks/; however after I used the new permalink structure, it would read http://www.penerjemahbahasa.com/stories/permalinks/ .. and without loosing any past 3 months articles because of the plug-in. Nice isn’t it?
Thanks Bob, Thanks Dean ….
